baking fail.

The cafe next to my office offers something called a "healthy cookie." I'm pretty sure there is nothing healthy about them, but they put them next to the "coffee toffee chocolate brownies" and so I always feel better about myself when I take the cookie. I mean, there are cherries in the cookie. That's like half a fruit serving, right?

The "healthy cookie" at the cafe inspired me to find a recipe for my mini cookie monster. Yeah, you'd think sharing a name with a vegetable would eliminate any chance of growing a sweet tooth, but I'm pretty sure every tooth Kale has is a sweet one.

So...I did what every mom does when they want a recipe. I looked on pinterest. Which led me to here - Bakerella's Heathy Cookies. And then Kale and I made the cookies and the entire time I was thinking "what is so %&%$ healthy about these cookies?!" I even made this titled picture for this post:

Then I looked up the link again to post here and that's when I realized - it says HEATHY cookies, NOT HEALTHY.

The cookies were really, really good. I just wish I'd known they weren't "healthy" before I ate an entire dozen for dessert.....

I would love if you could vote for us :) Just click the banner and then the owl on the left.

  1. BAHAHA! How can a cookie be heathy?!
Enjoy the unhealthiness - that's what cookies are for :)

  2. I was googling 'healthy cookies' just today! I came across one on allrecipes http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Healthy-Banana-Cookies/. We might try it, but we made snickerdoodles instead- these are not healthy, but were great, and Jackson really enjoyed helping roll them in the cinnamon/sugar! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Mrs-Siggs-Snickerdoodles/. Be sure to share if you find a good 'healthy' recipe!

  3. Hahaha! This really made me giggle. But I totally understand the confusion. I'm assuming Heathy means they were choked full of toffee bits? Yumm!

    1. I'm pretty sure 'heathy' is an American brand that we don't have here. You probably know this better than me!

  4. wtf does HEATHY even mean anyways - hold up I'll wikipedia the definition... so there isn't one (unless we're talking about shrub cookies). Someone on Pinterest did this on purpose! Let's hunt them down and make them eat a dozen of their heathy cookies with no milk.
I'm thinking of getting Saige Food Safe certified - that course scared me out of licking spatulas. Enjoy your high calorie baked goods.

    1. See my comment above to Wendy. I'm pretty sure 'heathy' is an American brand. Those Americans...always trying to pull a fast one on us!

  6. "Heathy Cookies" sound like they'd be full of roughage and that's healthy, right? The only way I know to slightly health-ify a cookie is to replace some of the butter with applesauce. The cookie will have a different texture though. Oh, and you can replace butter (at least partially) with ground flax seeds as well. Xylitol can be used in place of sugar, it's a natural product, about 10 calories per teaspoon and is anti-plaque (it's a main ingredient in natural toothpastes). But in the end, cookies aren't a meal replacer so I think it's ok to enjoy them in all their unhealthy glory, as long as you can practice moderation.

  7. This is hilarious. I love it. I have not baked with E yet. Maybe I will buck up and try it this week. I am kind of afraid of the mess. How much do you actually let him do?

    1. Kale is great at pouring the ingredients from the measuring cup to the bowl and he loves to have a turn mixing! This recipe was good because it involved rolling the dough into balls - something he was able to help out with. I'll admit though - it is VERY messy :)

  8. Awesome! I just saw this recipe that definitely looks like the RB "Healthy" cookie: http://annies-eats.com/2012/06/15/trail-mix-cookies/ but again, not exactly healthy :)
